Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre
Project type
New Build
Date
2024 Substantial
Location
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
The Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre is a 124,995 sq ft, $117-million recreation complex — two NHL-size rinks alongside a 47,000 sq ft aquatics centre with an 8-lane competition pool, wave pool, lazy river and two waterslides. Serving ice surfaces, a natatorium, change rooms, administration and a lobby from one coordinated package means five very different air systems, and none of them are catalogue units. BPL supplied four custom air handlers and a kitchen make-up air unit — roughly 30,000 CFM in total — each engineered unit by unit through five revision cycles. Each of the four carries an energy recovery wheel with variable speed control and a glycol preheat coil — a Saskatchewan winter being the condition these units were designed against rather than an exception they have to survive.
Equipment supplied by BPL Sales:
- 4 × Custom air handling units c/w gas burners, packaged cooling and heat recovery wheels
- Kitchen make-up air unit — 3,000 CFM, 91% efficient
Closing note:
Start-up was written into BPL's scope from the outset and carried out by factory-trained and certified technicians, and BPL has continued to support the units on site since. Custom equipment carries an obligation past the shipping date — a unit built for one building can only be commissioned properly, or explained to the people who will run it, by someone the factory has trained on it. Both were done by the same team.
